The Baylor Bears convincingly defeated the Gonzaga Bulldogs 86-70 to win the 2021 National Championship. With only two losses to their record all season, Baylor was a force to be reckoned with coming out of the Big 12 and into the tournament. They lived up to that billing, steamrolling their way into the Final Four. They ran Houston out of the gym with their unbreakable defense, only allowing TWO two-point field goals in the first half, cruising their way to the finals where they would face undefeated Gonzaga. Opening as four point underdogs, they got after it immediately, with hot shooting nights from Jared Butler and Davion Mitchell. Even with the big lead early, the Bears never let up, answering every Gonzaga run with a few scores and stops of their own, never letting the Bulldogs get any momentum. While Gonzaga had all the hype around them, especially after that thriller of a game against UCLA, they came out flat, and Baylor took advantage. Against a team like that, you cannot get away with poor starts, and that's what happened to them tonight. Everyone got the matchup that they wanted; the two best teams in America facing off in the biggest game of the year, and Baylor came out on top. Congratulations to the Baylor Bears on winning the National Championship!
